United States History - International Controversial IssuesThere are many topics on which the United States has a long and extensive history of involvement. These include international controversies, cultural clashes, economic stresses, and even religious dilemmas. Some may even contend that this is the reason why many of the countries in the world, including the United States, have a long and complicated history.
What then should be the focus when examining the question of how the United States has historically engaged in international controversial issues? In order to answer this question, it is important to first understand the specifics and situations surrounding each issue. This way, the history of these issues can be viewed on a larger scale and more clearly. The first controversy that the United States has been involved in involved the question of racial discrimination. With the year 1961 came the introduction of Brown vs. Board of Education to the Supreme Court. On this day, the Court ruled that separate but equal was not equal enough and that segregation was illegal. As a result, the issue of racial discrimination was brought before the court in courtrooms across the country. Schools became busier with the need for school integration. Parents and school officials fought back against this new concept and many instances of abuse were reported. In response, the United States government intervened and passed many of the laws that were put into place to help end the problems that were occurring. These laws helped many children who were being segregated, as well as the children who were being abused by their teachers. With this history of international, controversial issues, the next major event of the United States is World War II. During World War II, America had been at war for a very long time and tensions were still present between the nations. As such, tension reached a boiling point in Europe during World War II. This culminated in what was known as the Cold War, which pitted the United States and the Soviet Union against eachother. This marked a time when the United States government took many measures to end the international, controversial issues that were occurring in the world. It was during this time that the United States began bombing Russian cities and destroys parts of the Russian military. It was during this time as well that the United States went to war in Korea, an event that has come to be known as the Korean War. Many of the international, controversial issues that occurred during World War II have become extremely relevant today. For example, many of the countries in the world have become allied with the United States in its fight against international terrorism. Another historical instance of international controversy can be seen in the fight against communism in Eastern Europe. This brings us to the current debate over how the United States has dealt with controversial issues in recent history. While each issue may be unique, there are several themes that run through these types of issues and these themes can be applied to current issues as well. These include issues involving religion, international human rights violations, and economic struggles.
